Dolan of Essex Junction, Garofano of Essex, and Houghton of Essex Junction Offered by: Senators Vyhovsky and Wrenner Whereas, having won the 2022 boys’ indoor track and field championship and nearly repeated this victory in 2023, the Essex Hornets were eager to reclaim their lost title, and Whereas, the 2024 indoor track and field championship meet, conducted at the University of Vermont, showcased the Hornets’ athletic prowess, as they secured top finishes in the 600-meter dash, the 4x200 meter relay, and the weight throw, along with other outstanding performances, and Whereas, the Hornets entered the decisive final test, the 4x400 meter relay, with a narrow four-point lead, and their third-place finish, in an exciting relay in which only .15
seconds separated the top three teams, garnered Essex a sufficient number of points to
emerge as the 2024 Division I champion, besting second place St. Johnsbury Academy

Canedo, Alexander McClary, Jonathan McNamara, Thomas Meek, Elliot Miklus, David Monsengo, Ashtyn Morel-Blake, Adam Niquette, Kelton Poirer, Joseph Reed, Aiden Sabel, Maxwell Spaeder, James Steward, Beckett Versluys, William White, and Benjamin Wolynec, and Whereas, Head Coach Nicholas Smith and assistant coaches Varpilah Chase, Adam Lacross, Julie McGilpin, and Toki Tierata were skilled advisors, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2024 Essex High School Hornets Division
I championship boys’ indoor track and field team, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Essex High School.
