(H.C.R.166)
Offered by: Representatives Dodge of Essex, Andrews of Westford, Black of Essex,
Dolan of Essex Junction, Garofano of Essex, and Houghton of Essex Junction Offered by: Senators Vyhovsky and Wrenner Whereas, after the Essex High School Hornets girls’ volleyball team set a blazing pace of winning two perfect seasons, capped with State titles, the odds of repeating this accomplishment in 2023 seemed challenging at best, and Whereas, the top-ranked Hornets were eager to prove these odds wrong and proceeded to win each 2023 game, leading to the decisive contest, which was played at St. Michael’s College, against the second-ranked Champlain Valley Union Redhawks, and Whereas, the Hornets convincingly defeated the Redhawks in a straight set victory (25–
14, 25–21, 25–10), as Essex won a third consecutive State crown and its 51st straight game,
and Whereas, these accomplished Hornets were Riley Austin, Jennifer Longway, Trinity Anaya, Reese Gregory, Sara Sinkewicz, Hannah Knickerbocker, Tess Adams, Bianca Williams, Anna Towne, Abigail Desilets, Colleen Sonnick, Isabel Nerad, Shakeira Konare,
and Lucia Minadeo, and Whereas, Head Coach Jen Liguori and Assistant Coach Phil Reynolds were as ecstatic as the players to earn this most recent team honor, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Essex High School Hornets girls’
volleyball team on winning its third consecutive State championship, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
