10 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to improve
11 pedestrian and bicyclist access along State highways in the designated centers
12 of rural villages, so as to improve health, promote active lifestyles, and reduce
13 carbon emissions, by requiring the Agency of Transportation to narrow the
14 traveled portion of a State highway in a designated center to 11 feet within one
15 year after a selectboard making such a request.

17 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
