9 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to expand the
10 eligible uses of an exhibition vehicle to be based on total annual mileage and
11 not usage frequency and increase the registration fee and length.
12 An act relating to exhibition vehicle registration
13 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
14 Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 373 is amended to read:
15 § 373. EXHIBITION VEHICLES; YEAR OF MANUFACTURE PLATES
16 (a) The annual five-year fee for the registration of a motor vehicle that is
17 maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, and other functions
18 of public interest and that is not used for general daily transportation of
19 passengers or property on any highway shall be $26.00 $50.00, in lieu of fees
20 otherwise provided by law. Permitted use shall include:

1 (1) use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, and other functions of
2 public interest; and
3 (2) occasional transportation of passengers or property totaling not more
4 than one day per week 1,000 miles per year.
5 (b) Pursuant to the provisions of section 304 of this title, the Commissioner
6 shall issue one registration number plate shall be issued to those vehicles
7 registered under subsection (a) of this section, which, at the selection of the
8 registered owner, shall display “exhibition” or, if the registered vehicle is at
9 least 25 years old, “antique.”
10 (c) Vermont registration Number plates issued prior to 1968 may be
11 displayed on a motor vehicle registered under this section, instead of the plate
12 issued under this section, if the issued plate provided that the number plate
13 issued pursuant to subsection (b) of this section is maintained within the
14 vehicle and produced upon request of any enforcement officer as defined in
15 subdivision 4(11) of this title.
16 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
17 This act shall take effect on July 1, 2024.
