9 Subject: Consumer protection; heating and cooling systems; warranties
10 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to prohibit a
11 manufacturer of a heating or cooling system sold or used in the State from
12 disallowing or imposing any restrictions on the transfer of a full or limited
13 warranty in the system and from discrimination in terms between commercial
14 and residential usage.
15 An act relating to warranty coverage for heating and cooling systems
16 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
17 Sec. 1. 9 V.S.A. § 2466d is added to read:
18 § 2466d. WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR HEATING AND COOLING
19 SYSTEMS

1 (a) A manufacturer of a heating or cooling system sold or used in this State
2 that offers a full or limited warranty on its heating or cooling system shall not
3 disallow or impose any restrictions on the transfer of the full or limited
4 warranty to subsequent purchasers or owners.
5 (b) All warranty terms offered by a manufacturer of a heating or cooling
6 system sold or used in this State shall apply equally to systems used for
7 residential or commercial purposes.
8 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
9 This act shall take effect on July 1, 2024.
