13 Subject: Motor vehicles; registration fees; volunteer firefighters
14 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to waive the
15 registration fee for a volunteer firefighter’s personal motor vehicle when the
16 volunteer firefighter has the written authorization to use the motor vehicle for
17 emergency fire or rescue activities.

1 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
2 Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 376(c) is amended to read:
3 (c)(1) The registration fee for registration of a motor truck, trailer,
4 ambulance, or other motor vehicle, owned by a volunteer fire department or
5 other volunteer firefighting organization or other organization conducting
6 rescue operations and used solely for fire fighting firefighting or rescue
7 purposes shall be $15.00 in lieu of fees otherwise specified in this chapter. A
8 motor vehicle or trailer registered under this section shall be plainly marked on
9 both sides of the body or cab to indicate its ownership.
10 (2) The registration fee for registration of a motor vehicle owned or
11 leased by a volunteer firefighter and issued a permit for sirens and red or red
12 and white signal lamps pursuant to subdivision 1252(a)(2)(A) of this title shall
13 be $0.00 in lieu of fees otherwise specified in this chapter.
14 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
15 This act shall take effect on July 1, 2024.
