9 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to create a
10 uniform process for removing members of State boards and commissions
11 where not otherwise provided for in statute.
12 An act relating to uniformly removing members of State boards and
13 commissions
14 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
15 Sec. 1. 3 V.S.A. § 221 is added to read:
16 § 221. REMOVAL OF MEMBERS OF STATE BOARDS AND
17 COMMISSIONS
18 (a) Unless otherwise provided in statute, the appointing authority for any
19 member of a State board or commission may remove the appointed member
20 for cause prior to the termination of any term. Before removal, the appointed VT LEG #373025 v.1

1 board member shall be provided with a written statement of the reason for
2 removal and an opportunity to be heard.
3 (b) Unless otherwise provided in statute, any vacancy in a seat on a State
4 board or commission made vacant pursuant to subsection (a) of this section
5 shall be filled by the appropriate appointing authority within 60 days following
6 the vacancy.
7 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
8 This act shall take effect on passage.
