11 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to repeal the
12 Public Records Act exemption covering records relevant to litigation.

15 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
16 Sec. 1. 1 V.S.A. § 317 is amended to read:
17 § 317. DEFINITIONS; PUBLIC AGENCY; PUBLIC RECORDS AND
18 DOCUMENTS; EXEMPTIONS

1 (c) The following public records are exempt from public inspection and
2 copying:

4 (14) Records that are relevant to litigation to which the public agency is
5 a party of record, provided all such matters shall be available to the public after
6 ruled discoverable by the court before which the litigation is pending, but in
7 any event upon final termination of the litigation. [Repealed.]

9 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
10 This act shall take effect on July 1, 2024.
