9 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to allow the
10 current automated license plate recognition (ALPR) systems statutes to sunset
11 on July 1, 2024 and proposes to enact new laws that allow for the use of ALPR
12 systems and automated traffic law enforcement (ATLE) systems to be used for
13 legitimate law enforcement purposes, including traffic safety, which could
14 involve the use of ATLE systems incorporating radar and cameras at one or
15 more of the following: work zones, school zones, areas with a high incidence
16 of crashes, areas with a high incidence of speeding, and intersections with
17 traffic control signals.
