Massachusetts, and the Interfaith Council of Franklin County, Massachusetts, that they should jointly honor local students “who are finding ways to work for peace, and social and environmental justice,” and this resulted in the Peacemaker Award, and Whereas, in June 2022, a group of high school students who attend the Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield, Massachusetts, formed Active Community Trainers (ACT)
to encourage student-bystander training, and Whereas, during the summer of 2022, these students participated in a training program with the national organization Right to Be, in which they studied the 5Ds of bystander intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct, and Whereas, during the current school year, the ACT students collaborated with Pioneer Valley faculty in the development of a bystander training curriculum that the students presented to seventh graders, and Whereas, the ACT students did an incredible job teaching the course, demonstrating empathy, humor, and knowledge, and they served as great mentors to the younger students,
and Whereas, in recognition of their effective effort, the ACT students, including Vernon residents Liz Brown and Mia Fowler, are 2023 Peacemaker Award winners, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
