(NCUHS), where both of his parents were faculty members; earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College; and followed his parents’ path into public education, and Whereas, after teaching in Easton, Massachusetts, and serving as a coach and assistant principal, he returned home to Vermont, and Whereas, during his successful eight- and nine-year tenures as principal at, respectively,
Craftsbury Academy and the Troy School, the voters’ faith in his stewardship facilitated the passage of major construction bond votes, and Whereas, Christopher Young’s NCUHS principalship began shortly prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring nimble decision making, and, in the hopefully post-
pandemic world, he is now addressing the mental health needs of his students, and Whereas, he seeks to develop trusting relationships; administers the school in a transparent manner; and, in return, expects accountability from the students, and Whereas, beyond the NCUHS campus, he serves as the Vermont coordinator for the National Association of Secondary Schools and on the Vermont Principals’ Association
(VPA) Executive Committee, and Whereas, the VPA has honored him with its highest award, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2023 Vermont Principal of the Year,
Christopher Young, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Christopher Young and to NCUHS.
