10 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to conserve the
11 146-acre parcel in Benson and Orwell known as “Camp Sunrise” for ecological
12 purposes. The Secretary of Natural Resources shall negotiate in good faith
13 with the Boy Scouts Green Mountain Council to purchase “Camp Sunrise” and
14 to conserve the waters of Sunrise Lake and Sunset Lake to ensure ongoing
15 public access. This bill also proposes to appropriate the amount of
16 $3,000,000.00 in general funds to the Agency of Natural Resources to use for
17 the purchase of the property, and any identified maintenance needed on the
18 property, to make it available for use by the public.
