Offered by: Representative Sullivan of Dorset Offered by: Senators Campion and Sears Whereas, Terry Tyler of Dorset, an electrician by trade, has served his town in a variety of leadership roles, including town moderator, selectboard chair, and, for 22 years, town constable, and Whereas, his passion for local history spurred the establishment of the Dorset Historical Society, and Whereas, two historical topics on which Terry Tyler has conducted extensive research are Vermont’s gun manufacturing and the marble industry, and Whereas, Terry Tyler is the co-author of Vermont’s Gunsmiths & Gunmakers to 1900:
Including Inventors and Patentees of Firearms and Accouterments, Manufactories and Armories, as well as the author of three humorous books portraying local personalities, and Whereas, his unique collection of Vermont-manufactured firearms is now displayed at
the Shelburne Museum and was highlighted in a special temporary exhibit entitled “Lock Stock & Barrel: The Terry Tyler Collection,” and Whereas, now in his late 80s, Terry Tyler continues to serve as a tour guide at the Dorset Quarry, which he first visited as a small boy, and Whereas, Terry Tyler and his late wife, Helen Nichols Tyler, who was also an active civic leader, were jointly honored in the 2014 Dorset Annual Report, and in 2019, Terry was recognized as a WCAX Super Senior, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly honors former Dorset Town Moderator Nathaniel Terry Tyler, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Terry Tyler.
