Retired justices and judges; per diem payments for attendance at mandatory judicial conferences. Subject to reenactment by the 2026 Session of the General Assembly, the bill provides that justices and judges who are retired under the Judicial Retirement System and are eligible for recall shall receive a per diem payment for attendance at any mandatory judicial conference at a rate established by the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia. The bill directs the Office of the Executive Secretary to study the provision of an hourly rate of payment for any judge who is retired under the Judicial Retirement System and eligible for recall and reports its finding to the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees for Courts of Justice by October 1, 2025.
