This bill addresses vacancies in elected office.
This bill:
- requires certain vacancies in elected office to be filled by appointment of an individual selected by the political party of which the prior officeholder was a member at the time the prior officeholder was last elected or appointed, including:
a vacancy in the office of United States senator, state legislator, or State Board of Education member, to be appointed by the governor; anda vacancy in a county office, to be appointed by a county legislative body; and
- makes technical and conforming changes.Statutes affected:
