This bill modifies provisions relating to the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals.
This bill:
- modifies provisions governing the requirements and procedures of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals;
- provides that the governor shall appoint a chief justice of the Supreme Court (chief justice) when a vacancy in the office occurs;
- modifies provisions related to an interim chief justice and appointment procedures;
- requires that a governor's selection for chief justice is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate;
- provides that the governor shall appoint a presiding judge of the Court of Appeals (presiding judge) when a vacancy in the office occurs;
- modifies provisions related to an interim presiding judge and appointment procedures;
- requires that a governor's selection for presiding judge is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate; and
- modifies the organizational structure of statutory provisions to improve consistency.
