4 General Description:
5 This bill creates the criminal offense of interruption of a connected service in the
6 commission of a burglary.

21 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
22 Section 1. Section 76-6-202.2 is enacted to read:
23 76-6-202.2 . Interruption of a connected service in the commission of a burglary.
24 (1) (a) As used in this section:
25 (i) "Burglary" means an offense under Section 76-6-202.
26 (ii) "Connected service" means electrical, Internet, or telephone service.
27 (b) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5 and 76-6-201 apply to this section.
28 (2) An actor commits interruption of a connected service in the commission of a burglary if,

29 in attempting, committing, or fleeing from a burglary, the actor knowingly damages,
30 disables, or interrupts a connected service.
31 (3) A violation of Subsection (2) is a third degree felony.
32 Section 2. Effective date.
33 This bill takes effect on May 1, 2024.
