8 General Description:
9 This bill addresses human trafficking education and prevention.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 < directs the Office of the Attorney General to hire a state human trafficking
13 intervention coordinator; and
14 < describes the responsibilities of the state human trafficking intervention coordinator.

23 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
24 Section 1. Section 67-5-22.9 is enacted to read:
25 67-5-22.9. State human trafficking intervention coordinator.

26 (1) The attorney general shall appoint a state human trafficking intervention
27 coordinator.

28 (2) The state human trafficking intervention coordinator shall:
29 (a) provide support and resources to state and local prosecutors on human trafficking
30 prosecutions throughout the state;
31 (b) coordinate support for victims of human trafficking throughout the state;
32 º [(c) assist in the creation of the human trafficking and exploitation educational program
33 established in Section 53B-16-112;] »
34 º [(d)] (c) » promote awareness among the general public about human trafficking,
34a victim
35 remedies and services, and trafficking prevention;
36 º [(e)] (d) » promote training on human trafficking prevention and victim services for
36a state and
37 local employees who have recurring contact with victims or perpetrators of human trafficking;
38 º [(f)] (e) » present annually at professional development conferences throughout the
38a state
39 directed toward primary and secondary school teachers, administrators, and support staff
40 regarding human trafficking awareness and prevention; and
41 º [(g)] (f) » conduct other appropriate activities related to human trafficking.
42 Section 2. Effective date.
43 This bill takes effect on May 1, 2024.
