                               RESOLUTION

   Memorializing Rev. Jesse Jackson by flying the flag of the United
                          States at halfstaff.

Whereas Jesse Louis Burns was born on October 8, 1941, in Greenville, South
        Carolina, during the era of Jim Crow;
Whereas Reverend Jackson rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most
        consequential civil rights leaders of all time;
Whereas, after meeting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Reverend Jackson became the
        youngest staff member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
        and led the Chicago chapter of Operation Breadbasket, advancing economic
        empowerment;
Whereas, following Dr. King's assassination, Reverend Jackson founded Operation
        PUSH and later the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, strengthening political
        mobilization and challenging discriminatory corporate practices; and
Whereas Reverend Jackson's Presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988 broke racial
        barriers and energized millions: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved, That the House of Representatives urges the President to
issue a proclamation to lower the flags to halfstaff to honor the
memory of Rev. Jesse Jackson.
