A BILL
To authorize a grant program to support institutions of higher
education in hiring veterans as campus security, to prohibit Federal
funding for Equity Assistance Centers, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Veterans in Campus Safety Act''.
SEC. 2. GRANT PROGRAM FOR UNIVERSITIES TO HIRE VETERANS AS CAMPUS
SECURITY.
(a) Definitions.--In this section:
(1) Campus.--The term ``campus'' has the meaning given the
term in section 485(f)(6)(A)(ii) of the Higher Education Act of
1965 (20 U.S.C. 1092(f)(6)(A)(ii)).
(2) Institution of higher education.--The term
``institution of higher education'' has the meaning given the
term in section 102 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20
U.S.C. 1002).
(3) Secretary.--The term ``Secretary'' means the Secretary
of Education.
(4) Veteran.--The term ``veteran'' has the meaning given
such term in section 101 of title 38, United States Code.
(b) Authorization of Grant Program.--The Secretary shall award
grants, on a competitive basis, to institutions of higher education to
enable the institutions to hire veterans as campus security personnel.
(c) Application.--An institution of higher education that desires
to receive a grant under this section shall submit an application to
the Secretary at such time, in such manner, and accompanied by such
information as the Secretary may reasonably require.
(d) Use of Funds.--An institution of higher education that receives
a grant under this section shall use the grant funds to hire veterans
as campus security personnel for the campus of the institution.
SEC. 3. PROHIBITION ON FUNDING FOR EQUITY ASSISTANCE CENTERS.
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds may be
used to support Equity Assistance Centers, as described in part 270 of
title 34, Code of Federal Regulations, or any similar center.
