RES. 636 Condemning the tragic act of violence that took place in New York City, honoring the lives of the victims of the attack, commending the bravery of the New York City Police Department, and condemning acts of violence against law enforcement officials. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES August 5, 2025 Ms. Stefanik (for herself, Ms. Tenney, Mr. Hamadeh of Arizona, Mr. McCormick, Mr. Carter of Georgia, Mr. Bost, Mr. Fleischmann, Mr. McGuire, Mrs. Bice, Ms. Malliotakis, Mr. Scott Franklin of Florida, and Mr. Langworthy) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform _______________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION Condemning the tragic act of violence that took place in New York City, honoring the lives of the victims of the attack, commending the bravery of the New York City Police Department, and condemning acts of violence against law enforcement officials. Whereas, on July 28, 2025, a crazed madman opened fire on innocent civilians in a New York City office building; Whereas the suspect, armed with a rifle, ultimately took the lives of 3 civilians and 1 brave New York City Police Department (``NYPD'') officer before the suspect was successfully neutralized by the NYPD; Whereas the violent killing spree marks the deadliest gun attack to take place in New York City in 25 years; Whereas the police officer slain in the attack, Didarul Islam, rushed towards the danger, determined to save the lives of his fellow New Yorkers no matter the cost; Whereas Didarul Islam, who paid the ultimate price in service of his fellow citizens, was a loving husband and father who leaves behind a pregnant wife and 2 young children; Whereas Aland Etienne, an on-duty security officer, was also tragically murdered by the gunman during the attack in New York City; Whereas the continued calls for violence against Federal, State, and local law enforcement officers present an exigent threat against those who honorably serve and protect the people of the United States; and Whereas acts of unconscionable violence have no place in the United States, and should be resoundingly condemned by leaders on both sides of the political aisle: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) condemns the senseless act of violence in New York City that tragically claimed the lives of 3 civilians and NYPD police officer Didarul Islam; (2) honors the lives of the victims who were killed in the attack and expresses support and condolences for the families and loved ones of the victims; (3) commends the bravery exhibited by Didarul Islam, Aland Etienne, and the entirety of the NYPD for the heroism they displayed in responding to and neutralizing the shooter; and (4) condemns divisive rhetoric and violence against Federal, State, and local law enforcement officers and urges lawmakers to redouble their commitment to backing the blue. <all>
