[Congressional Bills 119th Congress] [From the U.S. Government Publishing Office] [H. Res. 129 Introduced in House (IH)] <DOC> 119th CONGRESS 1st Session H. RES. 129 Expressing support for the designation of February 9, 2025, as the first ever ``Gulf of America Day'' and celebrating the importance of changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES February 13, 2025 Mr. Alford submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources _______________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION Expressing support for the designation of February 9, 2025, as the first ever ``Gulf of America Day'' and celebrating the importance of changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Whereas, on January 20, 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order 14172 (``Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness''), which required the Secretary of the Interior, acting pursuant to take all appropriate actions to rename as the ``Gulf of America'' the United States Continental Shelf area bounded on the northeast, north, and northwest by the States of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida and extending to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba in the area formerly named as the Gulf of Mexico; Whereas the area formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico has long been an integral asset to the once burgeoning Nation and has remained an indelible part of America; Whereas February 9, 2025, marks President Trump's first visit to the Gulf of America since its renaming; and Whereas, as President Trump restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for this great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) expresses support for the designation of the first ever ``Gulf of America Day''; and (2) celebrates the importance of changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. <all>
