Senate Resolution No. 82 commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Irving Fire Department, which was established in 1925 with just 20 volunteers serving a one-square-mile area. Over the past century, the department has significantly expanded, now comprising over 400 personnel and serving a population of more than 250,000 across 68 square miles. The department operates from 13 stations and has enhanced its services to include emergency medical services, swift-water rescue, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue. Additionally, it has implemented a mental health and wellness program for its personnel and engages the community through various initiatives, including the Blue Christmas program and the Citizens Fire Academy.
The resolution acknowledges the dedication and courage of the Irving Fire Department members in protecting the lives and property of their fellow citizens. It provides an opportunity for the community to express gratitude for the department's outstanding service and achievements, including receiving an Insurance Services Office Class 1 rating, which places it among the top one percent of fire departments in the nation. The Texas Senate extends its best wishes for the future to the department's leadership and staff and will prepare an official copy of the resolution as a token of high regard.
