H.R. No. 149 is a resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of Cathedral High School in El Paso, which will be celebrated in 2025. Founded on September 8, 1925, by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, the school has a rich history, growing from an initial enrollment of 45 students to 200 by 1933. Despite facing financial challenges in the 1960s, dedicated members of the school community, including Brothers Stephen Tessandier and Amedy Long, worked alongside Bishop Sidney Metzger to revitalize the institution. By the 1980s, Cathedral High School had established itself as the only all-boys private religious school in El Paso.
Today, Cathedral High School is recognized for its academic excellence and innovative programs, including a dual-enrollment initiative and a STREAM curriculum that integrates science, technology, religion, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Under the leadership of Principal Adolfo Sanchez and supported by an active alumni association, the school continues to provide a strong educational foundation for its students. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' best wishes for the school's continued success and acknowledges its significant contributions to the community over the past century.
