H.R. No. 149 is a resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of Cathedral High School in El Paso, which will be celebrated in 2025. Founded on September 8, 1925, by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, the school has a rich history marked by significant growth and challenges. Initially starting with 45 students, enrollment surged to 200 by 1933. Despite facing financial difficulties in the 1960s that led to the departure of many Brothers, a dedicated group, including Brothers Stephen Tessandier and Amedy Long, along with Bishop Sidney Metzger and community supporters, revitalized the school. By the 1980s, Cathedral High School had established itself as the only all-boys private religious school in El Paso.

Over the years, Cathedral High School has built a reputation for academic excellence, offering innovative programs such as dual-enrollment and a STREAM curriculum that integrates science, technology, religion, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Under the leadership of Principal Adolfo Sanchez, the school continues to uphold its Lasallian educational tradition, focusing on the holistic development of its students. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' best wishes for the continued success of Cathedral High School and acknowledges its significant contribution to the community over the past century. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared as a token of high regard for the institution.
