The resolution commemorates the 175th anniversary of First Lutheran Church of Galveston, which was founded in 1850 by German immigrants and originally known as First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. The church played a significant role in the community by establishing a school in 1851, as there were no public schools at the time. It also provided shelter to displaced individuals during the devastating hurricane of 1900, and its sanctuary and lyceum have been restored and continue to serve the community. The church adopted its current name after World War II and has maintained its German heritage through events like the nationally recognized Oktoberfest.

The resolution acknowledges the church's long-standing contributions to the community, including various programs that promote fellowship and support those in need, such as Feed Galveston and Fanfare! Lutheran Music Academy. It highlights the church's historical significance, as it is recognized as the oldest Lutheran parish of German origin with a continuous ministry in Texas and was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The Texas House of Representatives expresses its best wishes for the congregation's continued faith and fellowship in the years to come.
