Senate Resolution No. 7 honors Commodore John Weldon Koenig on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Born on September 26, 1935, in Black Jack Springs, Texas, Koenig demonstrated musical talent as a saxophone player in high school and later served in the Longhorn Marching Band while attending The University of Texas at Austin. After graduating with a degree in business administration, he embarked on a distinguished 30-year career in the United States Navy, commanding submarines and ultimately serving as Director of Logistics and Security Assistance for the Pacific Command.
Following his military retirement, Koenig and his wife returned to Texas, where he pursued a second career in the cogeneration industry and became active in his community. The resolution recognizes him as a respected veteran and valued Texan, celebrating his contributions and the support of his family, including his three children. The Texas Senate extends its congratulations and best wishes to Commodore Koenig on this significant milestone, reflecting the esteem in which he is held by the state.
