This resolution honors the extraordinary efforts of first responders and volunteers who provided critical assistance during the devastating flash floods that struck the Texas Hill Country in July 2025. The floods, which resulted from heavy rains on July 4, caused significant destruction, particularly in Kerr County, leading to the loss of over 135 lives and marking it as the sixth-deadliest freshwater flood in U.S. history. Local law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency services quickly mobilized to conduct welfare checks, search and rescue operations, and provide medical assistance, with notable contributions from various state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard and the Texas National Guard.
In addition to local efforts, numerous states and international teams provided vital resources and personnel to aid in the recovery efforts. Over 2,000 volunteers joined the relief efforts, assisting with rescues, debris removal, and distribution of supplies. The resolution expresses profound gratitude to all those who selflessly contributed to the relief efforts, particularly the first responders who risked their lives to help those affected by the floods, and calls for their recognition and appreciation by the Texas Legislature.
