The Senate of the State of Texas honors the life of Robert Leon Oliver, a respected member of the Cuero community who passed away on June 8, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in Refugio, Texas, Robert developed a passion for his family's heritage and Texas ranching history during his childhood. He graduated from Refugio High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he was involved in the Longhorn Marching Band and the Acacia Fraternity. After earning a degree in journalism, he moved to Vail, Colorado, where he successfully owned Plaza Lodge Properties and contributed to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. His travels and experiences fostered a deep appreciation for architecture and art, which he later applied to historic preservation.

Returning to South Texas in 1995, Robert dedicated himself to preserving local heritage and historic structures in DeWitt County. He served as chairman of the Cuero Heritage Museum and played a pivotal role in establishing the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, which highlights the region's ranching history. His efforts in historic preservation earned him recognition, including a Preservation Texas Honor Award for the English-German School, which was renamed in his honor. Remembered for his kindness, integrity, and community leadership, Robert's legacy will continue to impact the lives of Texans. The Texas Senate extends its condolences to his family and honors his memory with this resolution.
