The resolution honors the memory of Chief Michael Eugene Phillips, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on July 5, 2025, at the age of 66. Chief Phillips, a dedicated member of the Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, was known for his humility, compassion, and strength. He began his career in the U.S. Air Force, later obtaining degrees in electronics and fire science, and rose to the position of chief in 2016. His commitment to public service extended beyond firefighting, as he also served as the maintenance and bond director for the Marble Falls Independent School District for 28 years.

On the day of his passing, Chief Phillips bravely responded to a call for help during catastrophic flooding in Burnet County, where he was swept away while attempting a rescue. His death has prompted an outpouring of support from the community, and he was posthumously honored at the Marble Falls Rodeo's First Responders Night. The resolution expresses profound condolences to his family, including his wife Cecilia, daughter Megan, grandchildren Paxton and Ryker, and sister Deborah, while recognizing Chief Phillips' legacy of courage and integrity that will resonate in Marble Falls and beyond.
