The resolution honors the life and legacy of Willie Belle Mollett Boone, a respected civic leader from Houston who passed away on July 15, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Beaumont on May 22, 1932, she was a dedicated advocate for her community, particularly in the Sunnyside neighborhood. Throughout her life, Mrs. Boone was actively involved in the Democratic Party and held various positions at local, state, and national levels, including precinct chair and election judge. She founded the Southeast Precinct Judges Council to enhance civic engagement in underrepresented areas and worked in several significant roles, including for Congressman Ken Bentsen and the Harris County Clerk's Office.
In addition to her political involvement, Mrs. Boone was a committed volunteer with organizations such as the Top Ladies of Distinction and the National Council of Negro Women. She was recognized as a Living Legend by Commissioner Rodney Ellis in 2021 and was a devoted member of the Windsor Village United Methodist Church. The resolution expresses condolences to her family and friends, acknowledging the profound impact she had on her community and the inspiration she provided through her life's work. The Texas Senate will adjourn in her memory, and an official copy of the resolution will be prepared for her family.
