The resolution commemorates the 10th anniversary of the San Antonio Missions being designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 5, 2025. This designation recognizes the cultural significance of the five historic missions—Mission San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo), Mission Concepción, Mission San José, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada—located along the San Antonio River basin. These missions, established in the early 18th century by Franciscan missionaries, played a crucial role in colonizing and evangelizing the northern frontier of New Spain, showcasing the blend of Spanish colonial and Indigenous cultures through their architecture and design.
The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' pride in the San Antonio Missions as the first and only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas and one of only 24 in the United States. It honors the rich cultural heritage represented by these historic landmarks and extends best wishes to all those associated with the missions for their future endeavors. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared as a token of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives.
