The resolution commemorates the 200th anniversary of the founding of Gonzales, Texas, which will be celebrated in 2025. Established in 1825 at the confluence of the Guadalupe and San Marcos Rivers, Gonzales was named after Rafael Gonzales, the governor of Coahuila and Texas. The city played a significant role in the Texas Revolution, particularly noted for the Battle of Gonzales in 1835, which marked the beginning of the conflict. Over the years, Gonzales developed into a thriving community with a rich history, including the establishment of Gonzales County in 1837 and a flourishing economy centered around agriculture and shipping by the late 19th century.

Today, Gonzales is home to over 7,000 residents who take pride in their heritage while looking toward the future. The city features attractions such as the Gonzales Memorial Museum and the annual Come and Take It Celebration, which honors its historical significance. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' recognition of Gonzales' contributions to the state's history and extends best wishes to its residents for a meaningful bicentennial celebration.
