H.B. No. 113 amends Section 25.1102(a) of the Government Code to expand the jurisdiction of the county court at law in Hidalgo County. The bill specifies that this court will have jurisdiction in family law cases and civil cases without regard to the amount in controversy, removing the previous limitation that capped the jurisdiction at $750,000. Additionally, the bill clarifies that the county court will have jurisdiction as provided by the constitution and general law, rather than having concurrent jurisdiction with district courts.

The changes made by this Act will only apply to causes of action filed on or after its effective date, which is set for the 91st day after the last day of the legislative session. Any causes of action filed before this date will continue to be governed by the law in effect prior to the enactment of this bill.
