H.B. No. 102 amends Section 25.1102(a) of the Government Code to expand the jurisdiction of county courts at law in Hidalgo County. The bill introduces concurrent jurisdiction with district courts for family law cases, civil cases, and criminal cases involving offenses punishable as state jail felonies. Notably, the previous limitation regarding the monetary threshold for civil cases has been removed, allowing for a broader range of cases to be heard in county courts.

The new provisions will apply only to actions filed in county courts at law in Hidalgo County on or after the effective date of the Act, which is set to take effect 91 days after the end of the legislative session. Actions filed before this date will continue to be governed by the existing law.
