Senate Resolution No. 711 celebrates the Carthage High School football team's remarkable achievement in winning the 2024 University Interscholastic League 4A Division 2 state championship. After a challenging start to the season, the Bulldogs demonstrated resilience by winning nine consecutive games to secure the district title. Their playoff journey included victories over several strong opponents, culminating in a decisive 45-17 win against Brock High School that led them to the state championship game. On December 20, at AT&T Stadium, the Bulldogs faced Waco La Vega High School, where they showcased their dominance with a final score of 28-14, marking their 10th state championship and concluding the season with an impressive 15-1 record.
The resolution also highlights the outstanding performances of key players, including Offensive MVP Kelwin Edwards and Defensive MVP Daquives Beck, as well as the contributions of the entire team and coaching staff led by head coach Scott Surratt, who has set a record for the most state titles won by a Texas high school football coach.
