The Texas Senate has passed a resolution honoring the life of Janita Ann Barnes, who passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on March 13, 1948, in Tyler, Texas, she was the daughter of Bettie Schindler and Buell Brinson and grew up alongside her three siblings. Janita had a long and fulfilling marriage to Buford Ray "Bubba" Barnes, with whom she shared nearly 58 years before his passing in 2022. Together, they raised three daughters and welcomed numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren into their family. Janita had a distinguished career in healthcare, earning her licensed vocational nursing certification and later an associate's degree in nursing, ultimately retiring as the supervisor of nursing services at the Diagnostic Clinic of Longview.
In addition to her professional achievements, Janita was deeply involved in her community and church, serving at Trinity Baptist Church for over 50 years in various capacities, including Sunday school teacher and youth worker. She also volunteered her culinary skills in the church kitchen and supported HeartsWay Hospice of Northeast Texas. The resolution expresses heartfelt condolences to her family, including her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and other relatives and friends, and it concludes with a request for an official copy of the resolution to be prepared for her family, ensuring her memory is honored by the Texas Senate.
