The Texas Senate has passed a resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of Tyler Junior College (TJC), which was founded on September 17, 1926. Initially starting with 93 students and operating out of Tyler High School, TJC has grown significantly over the years, now serving over 19,000 students annually across multiple campuses and offering more than 120 degree and certificate programs. The college has a rich history, including the establishment of various student organizations, athletic achievements, and community engagement initiatives. Notably, TJC was recognized as one of the top 150 community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Institute in 2017.
The resolution highlights TJC's commitment to providing a comprehensive educational experience and fostering a vibrant campus culture through various clubs, organizations, and traditions. It acknowledges the college's achievements, including its Military Friendly Silver status for the 2025-2026 school year and the record number of graduates awarded degrees and certificates during the spring 2025 commencement. The Texas Senate extends its best wishes to all affiliated with TJC as they celebrate this significant milestone in the college's history. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for TJC as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
