The resolution honors Kelly Murphy, a graduating senior from Stephen F. Austin High School, who has excelled in water polo and will continue his athletic career on a scholarship at Wagner College in New York. Since 2018, Murphy has been an active member of Longhorn Aquatics Water Polo and has made significant contributions to the varsity team at Austin High, serving as co-captain and earning multiple accolades, including All-District First Team honors for three consecutive years, the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year, and the 2024 Most Valuable Player. His leadership helped the team secure the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association West Region championship in 2022, and he was selected for the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program Southwest Zone National Championship Team in 2023 and 2025.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Murphy has also been a member of the swim team and has participated in the Academy for Global Studies and the National Honor Society, balancing his sports commitments with a rigorous academic schedule that includes AP and dual credit courses. The resolution expresses the Texas Senate's congratulations to Murphy on his graduation and scholarship, wishing him continued success in his future endeavors. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for him as a token of high regard from the Texas Senate.
