The Texas Senate has passed a resolution congratulating Jeff Traylor, the former head football coach at Gilmer High School, on his induction into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. A native of Gilmer and a 1986 graduate of Gilmer High School, Traylor began his coaching career in 1990 and achieved significant success at Gilmer, leading the Buckeyes to three state championships and earning a remarkable overall record of 175-26. His coaching accolades include being named Texas High School Coach of the Year four times and achieving a winning percentage that ranks him among the top coaches in state history.
After leaving Gilmer in 2014, Traylor continued his coaching career at various universities, including The University of Texas, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Arkansas, eventually becoming the head coach at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Under his leadership, the Roadrunners have secured two conference championships and five consecutive bowl appearances. The resolution expresses the Senate's admiration for Traylor's contributions to football and his ability to mentor young athletes, wishing him continued success in his future endeavors.
