The resolution commemorates the 40th anniversary of Liberty Bar in San Antonio, which will be celebrated in July 2025, and honors its owner, Dwight Hobart. Hobart, originally from the Texas Panhandle, has had a diverse career that includes serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and working as a wire service photographer during the Lebanese Civil War. He co-founded Liberty Bar with chef Drew Allen in 1985, and the restaurant quickly gained a reputation for its unique charm and homemade offerings. After Allen's passing in 1995, Hobart continued to run the establishment, which relocated in 2010 to a historic building in Southtown.
The resolution acknowledges Liberty Bar's significant impact on the San Antonio community over the past four decades, highlighting its loyal customer base and status as a beloved institution. It expresses the Texas House of Representatives' appreciation for Hobart's contributions to the community and extends best wishes for his continued success. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for Hobart as a token of high regard from the legislature.
