H.R. No. 1331 is a resolution recognizing Adelie Donovan from Kyle for being named the second annual Hays County Youth Poet Laureate on March 25, 2025. The National Youth Poet Laureate program, which collaborates with local literary arts organizations, aims to celebrate and elevate young writers. In Hays County, this initiative is sponsored by Infrarrealista Review and The Burdine Johnson Foundation, and it includes creative writing workshops led by experienced poets. Ms. Donovan, a student at Jack C. Hays High School, was guided by instructor SG Huerta and her manuscript, "Epitaph for My Fireflies," was selected by award-winning poet Naomi Shihab Nye for its exploration of significant themes such as mental health and the adolescent experience.
In addition to being named the Hays County Youth Poet Laureate, Ms. Donovan received a $1,000 prize and had her work published by Plancha Press. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' congratulations to Ms. Donovan for her achievement and extends best wishes for her future endeavors. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for her as a token of high regard from the House. The resolution was adopted by the House on June 1, 2025, by a non-record vote.
