Throughout his career, he advanced through various ranks, ultimately serving as assistant chief of the Services Bureau. His accolades include being named Rookie of the Year in 1998 and Detective of the Year in 2002. Dr. Pewitt holds multiple degrees, including a bachelor's in business administration, an MBA, and a doctorate in public affairs, and has contributed to law enforcement education as an adjunct faculty member.

In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Pewitt is actively involved in his community, serving in leadership roles for organizations such as the Leadership Richardson Alumni Association and the Boys and Girls Club of Richardson. He is also a dedicated volunteer for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
