The resolution recognizes Joanne Huffstetler from Plano for her achievement as a member of the Texas Partners in Policymaking Class of 2025. This program, organized by the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, aims to empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to advocate for policy changes. Over seven months, participants learn about disability history, systems, and policy, often leading to roles on various boards and councils. Ms. Huffstetler's capstone project focuses on addressing the housing crisis for individuals with disabilities in Texas, advocating for increased wages for direct support professionals to help families keep their loved ones in their communities.
With a master's degree in human development and over 30 years of experience as an early intervention specialist, Ms. Huffstetler currently serves as the director of operations at To Be Like Me, a nonprofit dedicated to disability awareness. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' congratulations to Ms. Huffstetler for her graduation from the program and acknowledges her commitment to effecting positive change in her community. An official copy of the resolution will be prepared for her as a token of high regard.
