H.R. No. 1048 is a resolution congratulating Leroy Nellis for receiving the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Killeen Independent School District Alumni Association. Mr. Nellis, a valedictorian of the Class of 1965 at Killeen High School, went on to earn a degree in accounting from The University of Texas at Austin and had a distinguished career as a certified public accountant and budget director for Travis County. He also dedicated 33 years to the Texas Army National Guard, achieving the rank of command sergeant major and serving in Operation Desert Storm.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Nellis has been actively involved in mentoring and community service since 2002. He has received accolades for his mentorship efforts, including being named Mentor of the Year in 2003. His initiatives have included facilitating opportunities for high school students to earn community college certificates and establishing a Boys and Girls Club in Del Valle. He has also contributed to organizations supporting children with incarcerated parents and has led efforts to recruit volunteers for mentoring programs. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' high regard for Mr. Nellis and extends best wishes for his continued success.
