The resolution honors the memory of U.S. Army Specialist Joey Martens Lenz, who passed away on February 1, 2022, at the age of 32. Born in Baytown, Texas, on November 16, 1989, Joey was a beloved son and brother who grew up in Willis, where he formed lasting friendships. After graduating from high school in 2008, he worked at TowBoatUS on Lake Conroe before enlisting in the Army in 2017. Joey served as a tactical power generator specialist, receiving several commendations for his service, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Defense Service Medal.

In response to his untimely death, a congressional bill known as the Specialist Joey Lenz Act has been proposed, aimed at improving health evaluations for service members to better identify preexisting medical conditions. The resolution expresses deep sympathy for Joey's family and friends, recognizing him as an exemplary soldier and a kind individual who positively impacted those around him. The Texas House of Representatives resolves to honor his memory and prepare an official copy of the resolution for his family.
