The Texas Senate has passed a resolution to celebrate the grand opening of the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington on March 25, 2025. This museum honors the Medal of Honor, the highest military decoration awarded by the United States Armed Forces, which recognizes individuals for acts of valor and bravery beyond the call of duty. Established during the Civil War under President Abraham Lincoln, the Medal of Honor has been awarded to fewer than 4,000 individuals out of approximately 40 million who have served in the military. Currently, there are 61 living recipients, including nine from Texas, who exemplify extraordinary courage and commitment to their country.
The opening of the museum coincides with National Medal of Honor Day, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn about the history and significance of the award and the heroic achievements of its recipients. The Texas Senate expresses its gratitude to these Medal of Honor recipients for their service and recognizes the museum as a fitting tribute to their legacy of courage and selfless service. A copy of the resolution will be prepared for the museum as a gesture of esteem from the Texas Senate.
