The bill, S.B. No. 2536, amends Section 21.006(i) of the Education Code to enhance the penalties for certain educational administrators who fail to report educator misconduct. Specifically, it establishes that if a superintendent or director does not file a required report, or if a principal fails to notify a superintendent or director about an educator's criminal record or misconduct, the State Board for Educator Certification can impose an administrative penalty of not less than $1,000, increased from the previous minimum of $500, and not exceeding $10,000.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that the State Board may not renew the certification of any educator who has been subjected to this administrative penalty until the penalty is fully paid. This legislation is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
