This bill amends the Insurance Code to establish specific automobile liability insurance requirements for drivers of transportation network companies (TNCs). It clarifies that insurance must cover TNC drivers while they are logged onto the company's digital network and during prearranged rides with riders in the vehicle. The bill specifies minimum liability coverage amounts for different scenarios: $50,000 for bodily injury per person, $100,000 per incident, and $25,000 for property damage when the driver is available but not engaged in a ride, and a total aggregate limit of $1 million for incidents occurring during prearranged rides.
Additionally, the bill introduces new language regarding insurance requirements, including provisions for uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage and personal injury protection. The changes will apply only to insurance policies delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, while policies renewed before this date will continue to be governed by the previous law. The effective date for this act is set for September 1, 2025.
