The bill amends the Government Code to enhance the privacy protections for certain personal information of specific individuals associated with higher education institutions in Texas. It adds members of the governing boards of institutions of higher education, as well as the chancellors and chief executive officers of university systems and institutions, to the list of individuals whose home addresses, phone numbers, emergency contact information, and social security numbers are exempt from public disclosure. The new legal language includes the insertion of provisions that define these individuals and their roles within the education system, specifically referencing terms defined in Section 61.003 of the Education Code.

Additionally, the bill modifies existing sections of the Government Code to ensure that the personal information of these newly included individuals is protected in the same manner as that of other public officials and law enforcement personnel. The changes will take effect on September 1, 2025, and will apply only to requests for information received by governmental bodies after this date. The bill aims to provide greater security and privacy for those in leadership positions within Texas higher education institutions.
