Dr. Harris joined the NASA Astronaut Corps in 1990 and made history as the first African American to walk in space during the STS-63 mission in 1995. His career at NASA was marked by numerous accolades, including the NASA Award of Merit and the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.

Following his tenure at NASA, Dr. Harris transitioned into entrepreneurship, serving as vice president of Spacehab, Inc., and later founding Versalius Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on healthcare technologies. He is also dedicated to inspiring minority students in STEM fields through initiatives like the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp. The resolution expresses the Texas House of Representatives' congratulations to Dr. Harris for his remarkable achievements and contributions, extending best wishes for his continued success.
